Did the Weatherman Mention a Little Rain?

So much has happened since the last time I have blogged so I’m just gonna get right into it!
Yesterday (Wednesday) we got to skip class so we could go zip lining!! We were to be at Plaza Cristal at 6 am because that was the time the bus was to leave! So, we decided we had better find this Plaza before we needed to get there at the crack of dawn.  We started Monday afternoon and asked security guards, people on the streets, and police officers and literally no one knew where this place was! So, Tuesday after class our mama gave us directions and we started on our way. We were to take a left at a park called “Las Fresas” so when we came across a park we asked the security guard if that was its name. His response was “I’m sorry, this is my first day on the job, I have no idea.”…What?! How do you not know where you work!? We then asked if he knew where Plaza Cristal was, and of course he did not. So we asked a few more people passing by and only got “I’m sorry, I don’t know” I then spotted a man across the street running. For some reason my heart was dead set on asking this man. I bolted across the busy street, dodging traffic and leaving the other 4 girls behind. I put my hand up and was yelling like an idiot “Tengo una pregunta, tengo una pregunta!” He looked at me like the weirdo I was and just kept running. So soon, I caught up to him and ran alongside him and asked where plaza cristal was. He finally stopped and guess what! HE KNEW WHERE THE PLAZA WAS!!!! So after taking his directions, we walked about 20 more minutes and found the darn thing!

The next morning my alarm went off at literally the butt crack of dawn; 4:48. I got out of bed, threw some clothes on and drank some coffee that our SWEET mama had gotten up to make us. However, I was drinking my first cup and thought hmmm 1 spoon of sugar would be awesome right now. I put one in, tasted it, and yep…it was definitely salt! We then walked the 30 minutes to the plaza and hopped on the buses. In about 2.5 hours, we arrived to the place we were going to zipline! It was awesome! We literally ziplined over the tops of the trees in the forest! Occasionally, while flying through the air, I’d look down and think “yup, if this cord breaks…I’m going to die” Thankfully, though, the cord never broke and our guides were awesome.  There was one line that was literally a tarzan swing! They strapped us up and threw us into the air and we got to swing back and forth 3 amazing times! But, my favorite line was the Superman line. They put us on our bellies and threw us off the platform, over the trees, where we soared through the air like superman for at least 1,000 yards.  I will admit though, being thrown off that thing head first was a little frightening! But, we all lived and I’d say it was a pretty darn awesome day!

Today (Thursday) after class, we had a city tour. We visited an old president’s house (I think his name was Rafael Angel), went to the national park, looked at the National Museum from the outside, visited the national theater, and walked around an art museum. While in the national theater we started being weirdos and imitated the statues for some photos. So, of course, we continued this throughout the art museum. We got some pretty awesome photos I’d say. Below are 2 of the photos we took imitating statues.

Once the tour was over, the bus dropped us off at the school which is about a 30 minute walk to our house. One thing I haven’t mentioned in my blogs yet about Costa Rica is the fact that it is beyond rainy here! Right now is considered “winter” for them. This means it is still super-hot but it never fails, it down pours for at least an hour each day. Sometimes it will rain all afternoon and when I said down pour earlier…boy did I mean it! So, anyway, we got dropped off and of course the clouds came in and it began to pour. We all got out our umbrellas (We do not leave the house without them anymore) but let me tell you…it wasn’t enough! It was sooo funny because we were all just miserable! The puddles we walked through were literally up to our ankles! And when cars would pass we would of course get splashed! So we finally got home, drenched and all but Amanda and I needed to get to a bank to switch over some money from dollars to colones. (This was a dire need as we leave for a resort tomorrow). So, Mary, Amanda and I changed t-shirts, put on some flip flops instead of sneakers and again went out into the pouring rain and walked ANOTHER 30 minutes to the nearest bank! When we got there, I asked the man if we could switch money and he let us in. The lady then came to the desk and explained we needed an account there so she sent us to the bank next door. I sort of felt bad though because we were so drenched that we literally flooded their tile lobby! Poor people didn’t even get business from us and we just left puddles!

Then, tonight, our mama made us some rice and beans and some pork for supper. However, while we were eating, Amanda made a sort of choking noise so we all looked over and this girl was literally sweating and crying! Hahahahah there must have been a pepper in the rice that she bit on and she could not stop sweating! The other 4 of us weren’t too sympathetic though because we all bust out laughing. At one point she even coughed and had to go upstairs to blow her nose because it cleaned out her sinuses so well!

Tomorrow, we have class and leave for a resort on the beach. There is a possibility they will have bungee jumping and I think I’m going to go for it ! Hope I don’t die!
